Biography:
Rachel Thomas is a Dallas-based artist from North Carolina, exploring the media of ceramics and printmaking. Thomas's work draws inspiration from the beauty in the mundane, depicting exuberance and familiarity. Through her art, Thomas strives to create moments of fun, vivacity, and wonder in nature, to serve as a positive cognitive avenue for the viewer. Thomas's work consists of large-scale composite prints, large-scale ceramic vessels, and non-functional, tableware-esque vessels that add an unconventional twist to traditional forms with their maximalist graphics and use of sequins.
Thomas earned her B.A. in studio art from the University of Dallas in May of 2025, with areas in ceramics and printmaking, and a concentration in art history. Thomas was the recipient of the University's inaugural Catherine Caesar Memorial Art Award, which honors a student excelling in art historical research and/or studio practice for her solo exhibition, The Magic Hour: Collective Effervescence, and her art history concentration thesis, The Folk and the Fine: Grayson Perry.
